The Prompt That Changed My Mind (And My Marketing)

AI moves fast enough to make anyone feel like a beginner. Socrates famously put it best: "I know that I know nothing." Just when you think you've mastered a tool, a new shift proves how much room there is left to grow.

AI is redefining itself by the second.

Over the past few months, my safety-net prompt has been: "What did I miss?" It’s a useful question, but I’ve realized it only gets you halfway. In practice, relying on it helped to reduce overcomplicated outputs and expensive, inefficient rework, but we still had gaps.

It got me thinking: If I went to my doctor and received a strange diagnosis, I wouldn't just accept what I was being told. I’d ask questions that forced them to double-check their logic. I’d look them in the eye and ask, "Are you certain?"

That’s a game stopper.

When you ask an AI if it’s certain, it stops generating narrative and starts auditing itself. It re-evaluates the available data, checks its underlying logic, and second-guesses its own assumptions.

In marketing, asking the right questions isn't just nice to have—it's critical. If you’re mapping out a campaign strategy, analyzing market data, or conducting competitive analysis, relying on surface-level outputs is a liability. "What did I miss?" shows you where the holes are. "Are you certain?" forces the AI to fill those holes.

Words have meaning and skilled prompting is still our best tool for getting quality results from AI. I’m already curious to see what my go-to prompt will be a few months from now—though, true to Socrates, I have no idea because I know nothing about tomorrow…yet.
